One of the highlights of one my trip to Thailand was being able to get up close with elephants. For such large creatures they are incredibly gentle, you can see and feel it in their eyes and demeanor. The younger ones are so playful and very cheeky.
Where ever there were elephants, there was a small stall with someone selling bananas - so you could feed them. They were incredibly inexpensive, at about 50 baht (AU$1.75) for a whole bunch. The idea was to get as much mileage out of your bananas as possible by feeding the elephants one by one. At times you could see how much more intelligent the elephants than the tourists. When the elephants would see someone approaching with a bunch of bananas with one outstretched in the left hand, they would quickly reach for their right hand to snatch they remaining half dozen bananas. Quite hilarious!
To celebrate these wonderful animals, I have released this brand new image. It was shot after we were treated to a little show of the very cool tricks.
Enjoy!
